Ghana’s most popular tourist destination is “Kakum National park “,


Many parks and sanctuaries have been created in the country to preserve the animals and their fading species so that they can get a safe environment. Kakum national park is one of those destinations with sanctuaries which was built a few years ago in the Central region of Ghana. This wildlife sanctuary is the residence of many rare species.

Central region, the most popular tourist destination in Ghana, is famous for its ancient historical beauty. Apart from the history lovers and devotees, this place is also very much like campus and nature lovers too. On one side of this town you can see its attractions and ancient buildings, while the beauty of the second and the castles and forts will make you mesmerized.

Kakum National Park is on coast of southern Ghana, in West Africa. It protects an area of rainforest, home to endangered mammals such as forest elephants, bongo antelopes and primates like the Diana monkey. The park is rich in butterflies and birds, including African grey parrots and hornbills.

The Canopy Walkway, suspended 30 meters above the ground, provides treetop views of the forest. You can join the exciting journey of this national park and wildlife sanctuary in your travel diary.

Kakum national park wildlife sanctuary remains normal, so you can come here between Mid-December through mid-April . During this time many wild animals and birds can be seen.

Central region is famous for its historical sites. Apart from this, Kakum is is famous for the Komfo Boateng’s Shrine, a circular rock near Aboabo. Which is of approximately 100 metres (330 ft) diameter with Bovine flora of Ceiba pathandra, Albizia furruginea and Ricinodendron heudelotiiits . For centuries the religious significance of this region has not diminished.

Even today, a large number of tourists visit the place. If you stop at Central in the journey of Kakum national park then your religious journey will also happen.
The park has a long series of hanging bridges known as the Kakum Canopy Walkway at the forest canopy level to provide access to the forest, which is a unique feature in the entire African continent. At 40 m (130 ft) height, the visitor can approach the limits and view plants and animals from a vantage point that would otherwise be inaccessible to people. The canopy walkway passes over 7 bridges and runs over a length of 330 m (1,080 ft). Some of the tree canopies are more than 50 metres (160 ft) in height. Built with wire rope, aluminium ladders, wooden planks, it is secured by a series of netting for safety purposes. An additional viewing platform that will allow visitors to climb into the canopy without braving the canopy walkway is currently under construction.
The Canopy Walkway was built by two Canadian engineers from Vancouver with the assistance of five (5) Ghanaians – the latter (staff of Ghana Heritage Conservation Trust- managers of the Kakum National Park Visitor Centre)have been maintaining the facility ever since.
