Top 10 Ghanaian female artistes of the decade. A decade begins at what most people deem its end. For documentation purposes, people deem 2000, 2010, 1990, 1980 as the start of a new decade.

So, this decade started in 2010 and will end in 2019 – it has been eventful in music. Despite some dry patches where genuine female music stars were few and far between, the decade managed to celebrate women.

When it comes to music, the likes of Rihanna, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj have been rubbing shoulders with their male counterparts. Same practices in Ghana as some female artistes are giving the likes of Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Samini, Sarkodie, etc a good run for their monies.

Becca

Rebecca Akosua Acheampomaa Acheampong popularly known as Becca in showbiz has released a number of songs in her more than 10 years of a music career. Becca shot to fame in 2007 after releasing her debut studio album ‘Sugar’.

Becca is considered as one of the talented singers in Africa. She again released her second album ‘Time 4 Me’ in 2013. Becca has collaborated with the likes of Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Kwabena Kwabena, Patoranking, Hugh Masekela, Tiwa Savage etc. One that you should dance to today is “African woman” which was in 2013 and still trending because of the lyrics.

The African woman hitmaker is currently promoting her latest single yes i do which features nigeria’s best female artiste tiwa savage.

Efya

Efya got her first exposure to fame when she participated in the maiden edition of the Stars of the Future talent show. She won the Best Female Vocal Performance category at the Ghana Music Awards in four successions, beginning in 2011.

Moreover, she was applauded for her performance at the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards. Efya has a number of songs you can listen to but make sure you play and listen to “forgetting me”. 

This song is themed around a period of uncertainty in a relationship. When you know you are in a relationship but you are not sure whether the love is real or you have been bypassed for another person. Here’s to all the girls in such a situation.

Mzvee

The former Lynx entertainment artiste has been very consistent after releasing her first single ‘Borkor Borkor’ in 2014, she followed this with ‘Natural Girl’ and went on to win the ‘Unsung Artiste Award’ at the 2014 Ghana Music Awards. She has also collaborated with top artistes like Patoranking, Stonebwoy, Kidi, Kuami Eugene, yemi alade and Shatta Wale.

Mzvee has released a lot of danceable tunes which include one of her latest dubbed ‘come and see my moda’.  This song tells the man who is in love to come and do the traditional rites in order to be married to her. Most women have found love and all they need to do is to get their men to ‘come and see their modas’.

Wiyaala

Mzbel

Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, popularly known as Mzbel, is a Ghanaian Hiplife artist and one of the most popular singers in Accra, Ghana. Known for her controversial traits, Mzbel has always played controversial music and followed it up with controversial comments that are sure to get her fans talking . Mzbel has a number of songs you can listen to but make sure you play and listen to “awoso me”. 

Eazzy

Mildred Ashong is popularly known as Eazzy. Eazzy released her debut album, Twinkle in August 2010. The album featured the singles “Bo Wonsem Ma Me” and “Wengeze” and earned her 2 nominations at the 2010 4syte Music Video Awards and 5 nominations at the 2011 Ghana Music Awards.

She has worked with fellow artists such as Stonebwoy, Mr Eazi, shatta wale, Medikal and others making her make the list of the Top 10 Ghanaian female artistes of the decade. In 2018 she released the visuals to her “Power” song official video feat, Shatta Wale.

Ohemaa Mercy

Ohemaa Mercy, known in private life as Mercy Twum-Ampofo, is a Ghanaian contemporary gospel singer. Ohemaa mercy started her music career in 2004.
