In a landmark moment for Ghana, Juventus Duorinaah has become the country’s first-ever deaf lawyer. His achievement marks a significant step forward for Ghana’s legal profession and its deaf community, highlighting the potential for individuals with disabilities to excel at the highest levels.

Duorinaah, who hails from Wa in the Upper West Region, has overcome numerous challenges on his journey to becoming a lawyer. His early education began at the Wa School for the Deaf, where he laid the groundwork for his academic success. He later attended the Senior High Technical School for the Deaf (SHTSD), completing his studies in 2007.

Driven by a passion for learning, Duorinaah continued his education at the University of Ghana, where he graduated with first-class honors in sociology and political science. His pursuit of legal knowledge then took him to Cardiff University’s School of Law and Politics in the United Kingdom, where he earned a Master of Law degree, specializing in Human Rights Law.

After returning to Ghana, Duorinaah enrolled in the University of Ghana’s law degree (LLB) program, graduating with second-class lower honors. Despite facing significant challenges, including six years of rigorous legal training, he successfully passed the entrance exams to the Ghana School of Law and has now been officially called to the bar.

This remarkable achievement is not just a personal triumph for Duorinaah but a milestone for Ghana’s deaf community, which has long been underrepresented in professional fields.
