Barcelona pulled off a sensational late comeback to secure a crucial 4-2 victory over title rivals Atletico Madrid, maintaining their position at the top of La Liga. Hansi Flick’s side, who were in dominant form with 19 points from a possible 21 in the second half of the season, overturned a two-goal deficit in the final 20 minutes of the match.
How the Match Unfolded
The first half was a tense affair, with both teams cautious in their approach. However, the deadlock was broken just before halftime when Julian Alvarez finished off a swift Atletico counterattack to give the hosts the lead.
Atletico extended their advantage in the second half as substitutes Alexander Sorloth and Conor Gallagher combined, with the Norwegian forward doubling the lead. Diego Simeone’s men looked set to claim all three points, but Barcelona had other plans.
Robert Lewandowski, La Liga’s top scorer, pulled one back in the 70th minute with his 22nd goal of the season, injecting life back into Barcelona’s attack. Six minutes later, Raphinha delivered a pinpoint cross, and Ferran Torres, another substitute, headed in the equalizer.
With the match seemingly heading for a draw, 16-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal produced a moment of brilliance in stoppage time, firing a long-range shot that deflected off Reinildo and found the back of the net. Torres then sealed the win with the last kick of the game, completing a stunning turnaround.
La Liga Title Race Heats Up
The victory sees Barcelona level on points with Real Madrid (60), but they hold the top spot due to a superior goal difference. Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, remains in third place with 56 points.
