Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed his top three greatest midfielders in Premier League history, omitting the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Frank Lampard from his final selection.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand Presents, the former England defender insisted that De Bruyne does not surpass Steven Gerrard “on any day of the week.”
Ferdinand’s ultimate midfield trio consists of Steven Gerrard, Paul Scholes, and Roy Keane, whom he considers the best to ever play in the English top flight.
“De Bruyne’s not better than Gerrard on any day of the week,” Ferdinand stated. “I’m sorry, he’s not.”
The former defender acknowledged other legendary midfielders, including Patrick Vieira, Frank Lampard, and De Bruyne, but ultimately decided they fell short of his top three.
Meanwhile, De Bruyne is rumored to be leaving Manchester City after nearly a decade at the club, while Lampard has long retired from professional football.
