BREAKING: Black Sherif Scores 2025 BET Awards Nomination, Fans Celebrate Massive Win for Ghana

Ghanaian music star Black Sherif has been nominated for the Best International Act at the upcoming 2025 BET Awards, making him the only Ghanaian artist to secure a spot on this year’s prestigious list.

The official nomination list, released on May 8, 2025, has generated excitement across the entertainment world ahead of the highly anticipated main event on June 9. The 23-year-old hitmaker will be competing with global stars including Ayra Starr from Nigeria and Tyla from South Africa.

Black Sherif Makes History at the BET Awards

Since the BET Awards restructured its international categories in 2018, no Ghanaian had made the final nomination list—until now. Black Sherif’s inclusion marks a milestone for Ghanaian music, as he becomes the first Ghanaian nominee under the rebranded Best International Act category.

Renowned Ghanaian radio personality Ebenezer Donkoh (NYDJ) emphasized the importance of the feat, noting that since the merger of “Best International Act: Africa” and “Best International Act: UK” categories, Ghana had not seen any representation—until Black Sherif broke the streak.

“Black Sherif’s nomination in the Best International Act category makes him the first Ghanaian artist to grab a nomination since the award’s restructuring in 2018,” NYDJ noted.

Ghana’s Legacy at the BET Awards

Ghana’s history with the BET Awards goes back to 2012, when Sarkodie won the country’s first trophy as Best International Act: Africa. In 2015, Stonebwoy followed suit, also winning in the same category.

Kendrick Lamar Leads the Pack

While Black Sherif’s nod is a proud moment for Ghana, Kendrick Lamar leads this year’s nominations, earning over 10 nods for his outstanding work, including Video of the Year for Not Like Us and Album of the Year for GNX.

Black Sherif’s nomination is not just a personal achievement—it shines a global spotlight on Ghanaian music and talent. With his unique blend of drill, hip-hop, and Afrobeat sounds, the Konongo native is gradually reshaping the international perception of Ghanaian music.
