A few hours ago, the highly anticipated UCF 276 event of the year came to a successful conclusion. New Zealander Israel Mobolaji Odunayo Oluwafemi Temitayo Owolabi Adesanya, who is of Nigerian descent, successfully defended his Middleweight title against American mixed martial artist Jared Christopher Cannonier.
The Nigerian-New Zealander star is defending the championship for the sixth time. Alexander Volkanovski, an Australian professional mixed martial artist, also successfully defended his Featherweight title against Jerome Max Keli’i Holloway, an American competitor. The UFC judges unanimously decided that Israel Adesanya and Alex Volkanovski should keep their respective championships. Both Adesanya and Alex were seen listening to “Commando” by the talented musician from Ghana, King Promise, before their fight.
“They had an excellent game plan,” Adesanya said about Cannonier’s team. “It was really hard to get my follow-ups going.”
Adesanya called out who he wants to fight next: Alex Pereira, who owns two wins over Adesanya in kickboxing.
Pereira also fought – and won – on the undercard Saturday night. Pereira was in the arena for Adesanya’s pronouncement.
“The first time I told you it was an error on my part spamming the right hand,” Adesanya said to Pereira.
“That was in kickboxing. … Next time I punch you, you’ll be on skates and you’re gonna be frozen like Elsa. I’ll leave it at that.”
