Joshua was born in Watford, Hertfordshire, England on October 15, 1989. He has a Nigerian mother named Yeta and a Nigerian and Irish father named Robert. Joshua spent his childhood in Nigeria at the Mayflower School in Ikenne.
When he was 12 years old, his parents got a divorce, so he moved back to the UK and enrolled in Kings Langley Secondary School. He ran the school’s 100-meter event and played soccer. However, he did not begin boxing until the age of 18, a fairly late start in the sport, and before commencing to box full-time, he worked as a bricklayer.
Joshua greatly improved after beginning to box in 2007. Derek Chisora, a professional heavyweight boxer, also calls the Finchley ABC club in North London home. Joshua has already achieved success in 2009, taking home the Haringey Box Cup. He won the senior ABA Championships in 2010 but declined the chance to go pro, choosing to stay an amateur until he had amassed additional victories.
