Edouard Mendy was born in France on March 1, 1992, to Senegalese mother and Bissau-Guinean father. He began playing football at a young age. At the age of 13, he joined Le Havre AC’s youth academy. Mendy slipped down ranks to play for CS Municipaux Le Havre after being caught behind Zacharie Boucher in the talent pool. He began his professional career with AS Cherbourg, who were then in the Championnat National, France’s third-tier football league system.

Mendy finished the season with 18 clean sheets in 34 appearances. Mendy appeared in all 38 Ligue 1 games for newly promoted Reims last season, helping them to an eighth-place finish. Mendy had fourteen clean sheets, which was the third-most in the league. Edouard Mendy joined Rennes in 2019 for an undisclosed amount, reported to be about €4 million, to replace departed goalkeeper Tomá Koubek.
