Arm robbery on the ascendency in Katamanso; residents in a constant state of terror

Pinkwai District, a suburb of Kpone-Katamanso has it residents living in fright as arm-robbery in the district has been on the rise hence, causing individuals in the community to live in fear .

In the current trepidation the residents of local communities like Promise-Land, Royal City and New-Land, which communities under the Pinkwai district, little or zero action has been taken by the leaders at the district assembly including the Ghana Police Service who are having the mandate to provide security for the residents.

That not withstanding, several cases of petty theft has been reported to the Police and at every point, the criminal will be provided bail and released on no concrete bases. However, the rate at which the arm-robbery has accelerated in the community is one that has to be averted by the Ghana Police Service. Members of the community are no longer comfortable engaging in any economical business after 6:00 pm and vice versa.

Further, in the last three weeks, several robberies have taken place in the various community enlisted above and majority are theft cases which took place at dawn; around 3:00 am to 5:00 am in the morning. More to it, a significant number of these victims of robbery cases are traders residing in the communities; who are always going to buy stuffs at the Ashaiman market to come restock their shops.

One of the victims narrated her story who only wants to be called Adwo:

“I was on my way to the market around 4:30 am. I used the Promise-Land road which leads to the Promise-Land lorry station; whiles walking to the station, a motor bike which had two boys on the bike. They sped off so fast to come pass by me, in a space of 5 minutes they returned with the same speed.

“Me thinking they were just going to their destination, they returned for the third time and for this time, they were slowing down when they were getting close to me; before I could scream that I have been robbed, they sped off with my hand bag which had my money and my other personal belongings. The saddest and painful part is, these so-called arm-robbers looked as young as my children who are around eighteen years but I am not sure they are above 24 years,” Adwo detail her encounter with the robbers.

There are many cases similar and more frightening then Adwo`s. The conversations that is currently ongoing with respect to the arm-robbery cases by the various community residents are, they would not engage in a commercial or economic activities if they do not see the sun, especially the market women who go for the market at dawn.

Residents are calling on the Ghana Police Service in Kpone-Katamanso to deploy more man in order to provide the requisite security needed for them to go about their daily business in peace. They further placed a courtesy call through these medium to the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly to come fix more street lights in the communities in order to brighten up the jurisdiction hence, could reduce the crime rates.
