Bill Fitch was a National Basketball Association (NBA) head coach for the United States. In 1981, he won an NBA championship with the Boston Celtics after developing many clubs into postseason hopefuls.

Bill Fitch Biography
Bill Fitch was born on the 19th of May, 1932 in Davenport, Iowa. In 1954, he earned a degree in Physical Education from Coe College, where he also played basketball and baseball. He was an NBA head coach in the United States. Prior to his NBA coaching career, Fitch served in the US Marine Corps as a drill instructor.
Fitch coached at the University of Minnesota, Bowling Green State University, the University of North Dakota, and Coe College, among others.
In his only season with the team, he guided North Dakota to three NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournaments and Bowling Green to the 1968 NCAA University Division Basketball Tournament after capturing the Mid-American Conference title in conference play.
During his 25-year professional coaching career, Fitch was frequently engaged to help struggling clubs.
Fitch was named one of the NBA’s Top Ten Coaches of All-Time in 1996. In 2016, Rick Carlisle donated $150,000 to the Hall of Fame to commemorate Fitch with an honorary seat that surrounds a statue of James Naismith and other granite benches honoring great coaches.

On March 19, 1970, the expansion Cleveland Cavaliers hired Fitch as their first head coach for the 1970–71 season. Also, Fitch was hired by the Boston Celtics on May 23, 1979, replacing Dave Cowens, who had led the team to a 29–53 record as a player-coach the previous season.
