Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has dismissed rumours suggesting he could leave his position ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The Swedish tactician, who recently lead Ghana to a win qualification for 2026 WAFCON tournament, reaffirmed his commitment to the team following widespread reports linking him to other coaching opportunities.

Ghana secured an impressive 7-0 aggregate victory in the qualifiers, sealing their spot at next year’s WAFCON. Despite this success, speculation arose that Bjorkegren might depart for a more lucrative offer abroad.
However, the coach has made it clear he is fully focused on continuing his work with the Black Queens.
“No, I will not [leave]. To be completely honest, I had another 14 offers at the time I signed for Ghana. I wanted to be here in Ghana, and I think I can help the girls,” Bjorkegren told reporters after the game.
“Together, I think we are on the way to something really, really good, so I’m here to stay with the girls,” he added.
The 2026 Women’s AFCON, set to take place in Morocco, will also serve as the qualification tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with the four semifinalists earning automatic spots at the global showpiece.
Bjorkegren’s firm stance on staying offers a huge morale boost for Ghana’s women’s national team as they continue preparations to make a strong impression at the continental event.
