Ellison entered a plea of guilty to two counts of wire fraud, two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to commit securities fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering in December 2022.

Ellison met Sam Bankman-Fried while working for Jane Street, a quantitative trading firm, after graduating. She spent 19 months as a junior trader at Jane Street.

Ellison began working for Alameda Research in March 2018, and in October 2021, she and Sam Trabucco were named co-CEOs. In August 2022, she took over as Alameda Research’s sole CEO when Trabucco resigned.

In a plea deal, Ellison admitted guilt to conspiracy to commit wire fraud on FTX customers, conspiracy to commit wire fraud on Alameda Research lenders, conspiracy to commit wire fraud on Alameda Research lenders, conspiracy to commit commodities fraud, conspiracy to commit securities fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering on December 18.

Gary Wang, a co-founder of FTX, entered a guilty plea to several charges on that day as well. On December 23, a transcript of her plea hearing was made public. In it, she told judge Ronnie Abrams that she and others had planned to deceive FTX’s lenders and investors in order to steal billions of dollars from their customers.
