Chelsea is making good progress in talks with Benfica to finalize the transfer of midfielder Enzo Fernandez this week.
Fernandez shined for Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and is widely anticipated to move Benfica during the January transfer window.
“At the moment, there are negotiations for Enzo Fernandez, Chelsea will push this week to get it done, it is fairly advanced, but it is not concluded,” transfer guru Fabrizio Romano said.
Chelsea is already ahead of Liverpool and Manchester United in the race to recruit the Argentina star.
“It will depend on Benfica, on president Rui Costa who always said he wanted £106m clause or nothing.
“Chelsea would ideally like a different structure to the £106m clause, but the player really wants to join. It will be up to Benfica, though, so we will see what happens in the next few days.”
