Chesapeake Walmart Shooting: 6 People And The Gunman Are Dead
Chesapeake Walmart Shooting: 6 People And The Gunman Are Dead. A shooter opened fire at a Walmart Supercenter in Virginia late Tuesday, killing six people and injuring four others in the second high-profile mass shooting in a matter of days. Police confirmed that the assailant was also killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Chesapeake Police Chief Mark Solesky told a press conference early Wednesday that the gunman’s identity would be withheld until his next of kin were notified, but that he was an employee of the store.
He was discovered dead at the scene. Police would not say whether the victims were shoppers, employees, or both. Police said they couldn’t say whether the shooter was targeting anyone because the investigation could take days.
The number of customers inside the store at the time of the shooting, which occurred during busy pre-Thanksgiving shopping hours, is also unknown.
Three days earlier, someone opened fire at a gay nightclub in Colorado, killing five people and injuring 17. On the University of Virginia campus last week, a former college football player shot three of his teammates.
