Chidimma Adetshina, a law student and model born in South Africa, has been crowned Miss Universe Africa and Oceania 2024. The grand ceremony took place on Saturday, November 16, in Mexico. Adetshina represented Nigeria, her father’s country, in this year’s prestigious beauty pageant.
The 73rd edition of Miss Universe was a historic event for Africa, with 18 contestants from the continent competing—more than ever before. The competition featured participants from 125 countries, showcasing diverse cultures and talents from across the globe.
Chidimma’s journey to the crown was not without challenges. In August, she withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant, where she was among the top 10 finalists, following xenophobic attacks on social media. However, her determination and poise allowed her to rise above adversity and shine on the global stage, becoming a beacon of hope and inspiration for many.
