A jury found Darrell Brooks Jr. responsible on Wednesday for driving through a 2021 Christmas parade, which killed six people and injured hundreds more.
The jury also found him guilty of dozens of felony crimes related to the incident. The jury met again on Wednesday morning. On Tuesday, they talked about the case for two hours.
In total, it took the jury a little more than three hours to decide that Brooks was guilty of all 76 charges related to the attack.
Six counts of first-degree intentional homicide, each of which is punishable by life in prison, were among the charges. Brooks looked down, covered his face with his hands, and put his head on his forehead while the judge read the verdict.
On November 21, 2021, when Brooks’ red Ford Blazer SUV tore through the Christmas parade trial, it killed at least six people and hurt at least 61 more. Along a line of four blocks, the police and other people rushed to help the victims and started looking for the driver at the same time.
Before the verdicts were read, people in blue Waukesha Strong sweatshirts gathered outside the courtroom with their heads down and their prayers unsaid.
Jennifer Dorow, the Circuit Judge of Waukesha County, has set up a hearing for Monday to decide when the sentencing will be, and she has said that victims will be able to give impact statements via Zoom.
