Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has revealed why Eddie Nketiah, an English-born Ghanaian forward, left London rivals Chelsea to join Arsenal.
Chelsea signed Nketiah when he was nine years old and playing for the south-east London Sunday team Hillyfielders. Chelsea later released him in 2015.
Following that, he joined the Arsenal Academy and played for the club’s youth teams. In the years afterwards, the 23-year-old has established himself as a mainstay at Arsenal.
“In his early years, he was at Chelsea. People don’t realize that,” Henry told HITC, adding, “Because Tammy Abraham was there and doing what he was doing, he left Chelsea to come to Arsenal.”
Nketiah, who spent the previous season on loan at Leeds United before returning to Arsenal in January 2020, appeared in 21 Premier League games, scoring five goals and assisting one.
Due to Gabriel Jesus’ injury, he is being relied upon. On Monday, he scored in a 3-1 Premier League win over West Ham.
Nketiah has appeared in 20 games for Arsenal this season, scoring four goals and providing one assist.
