Fire At Ugandan School For Blind Kills At least 11 People

According to Ugandan police, at least 11 people, including students, were killed and six others are critically injured after a dormitory at a school for visually impaired children in Mukono, east of the capital, Kampala, caught fire.

According to police, the injured are being treated at Herona Hospital. The cause of the fire at Salaam School of the Blind, which is said to have started in the early hours of Tuesday morning, is being investigated.

School fires are common in Uganda, and they are sometimes started by children lighting candles in their dormitories after the lights have gone out. Overcrowding in the schoolchildren’s sleeping areas makes it difficult to manage the fire in many cases.
