Fuel Prices in Ghana

Fuel prices in Ghana are expected to see mixed adjustments in the second pricing window of August 2025, with petrol and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) likely to increase, while diesel experiences a marginal drop.

According to projections from the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), petrol prices at the pump are expected to rise between 0.39% and 2.71%, while LPG is set to increase by 0.15% to 2.34%. In contrast, diesel prices are forecast to fall slightly by 0.21% to 0.72% from Friday, August 15, 2025.

COMAC explained that the adjustments are driven by varied global petroleum market trends, a slight depreciation of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar, and product-specific supply and demand factors.

“Following the slight dip in crude prices, diesel fell sharply by 5.22%, while petrol and LPG rose marginally by 1.89% and 2.87%, likely due to product-specific demand and supply factors,” the statement noted.

For the first August 2025 pricing window — based on average exchange rates from July 27 to August 12 — the cedi slipped from GHS 10.68 to GHS 10.77 per dollar, representing a 0.87% depreciation.

Global market trends during the review period showed Brent crude oil prices dipping by 0.23% from $70.42 to $70.26 per barrel, pressured by higher production from OPEC+ and non-OPEC producers, weaker futures market sentiment, and reduced speculative positions.

Diesel recorded the most significant global price drop of 5.22%, while petrol and LPG rose by 1.89% and 2.87% respectively.

The cedi’s depreciation also added mild upward pressure on import costs, contributing to the expected petrol and LPG price increases in Ghana.

COMAC stated that the forecasted pump price changes are in line with global oil market movements, with minimal increases for petrol and LPG expected in the upcoming pricing window.
