Some Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) in Ghana have begun adjusting fuel prices upward following the start of December’s first pricing window. Leading the charge is Shell, which has implemented slight increases for both petrol and diesel.

Petrol, which retailed at GH₵14.82 per litre during November’s second pricing window, now sells for GH₵14.99, reflecting a modest rise. Diesel has also seen a minor increase, climbing from GH₵15.66 to GH₵15.72 per litre.

This adjustment comes despite earlier expectations of a general fuel price reduction. In the previous pricing window, petrol prices saw a decline, while diesel remained steady, contrary to predictions from the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC).

COPEC had forecasted price drops for both products on November 16, based on favorable global market trends and the cedi’s stable performance. International market data showed a decline in petrol prices from $723.03 to $676.64 per metric tonne.

Shell’s recent price hike just four days into December’s first pricing window may indicate a broader trend in fuel price adjustments. As OMCs continue to respond to market dynamics, consumers should brace for potential further fluctuations in the coming days.
