A groom was accidentally shot dead at his own wedding, leaving his heartbroken bride covered in his blood. Marco Antonio, 32, was shot dead while walking to the wedding car after the church ceremony in Caborca, Mexico while holding his bride’s hand.
The IT engineer is thought to have been mistakenly targeted by warring cartel gangs in the city. His wife was tragically photographed in her blood-stained gown being assisted by a loved one.
According to local media, Antonio’s sister was also shot in the back. Antonio died as a result of a “direct attack” with a firearm, and his death could have been “a mistake,” according to officials.
The infamous Caborca Cartel, led by drug lord Rafael Caro Quintero, is based in Carboca. The gang is currently at odds with the Los Salazar network over drug trafficking.
“Investigations indicate that the attack against Marco Antonio was directed towards another individual who was also getting married at the same time in a different nearby city,” the prosecutor’s office said.
“No line of investigation is ruled out and all the necessary Criminal and Field Ballistics expert reports are carried out, in order to fully clarify the facts and find those responsible to do justice.”
Another groom was also shot at his wedding in a nearby city on the same night.
State governor Alfonso Durazo said: “This was an attack intended for a single individual and this means that this will not happen just to anyone.”
