He was born on 13th July, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. Harrison grew up in the suburb Des Plines. Moreover, he was born to Dorothy Nidelman, a radio actress, and Christopher Ford, an actor turned advertising executive.

However, Harrson wasn’t the best student in college, and he ended up leaving before completing his degree.

Harrisson travelled to Los Angeles to seek for job opportunities in radio voice-overs. He later got his first bit role as a bellboy in ‘Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round’.

In 1967, Harrison was credited as “Harrison J. Ford” in the 1967 Western film A Time for Killing. However, he played important roles in the super hits of the 70s: American Graffiti, Conversation, Apocalyse Now, Heroes, Force 10 from Navarone, Hanover Street, and The Frisco Kid (1979).

Ford abandoned the “J” and went to work for Universal Studios in the late 1960s and early 1970s, performing minor roles in a variety of television shows.

Harrison became a self-taught professional carpenter to support his then-wife and two young sons after becoming dissatisfied with the jobs assigned to him.

Throughout the late 1970s, Ford began to play larger roles in films such as Heroes (1977), Force 10 from Navarone (1978), and Hanover Street (1979).
