The Former Auditor-General, Mr Daniel Yaw Domelovo has chastised government for its inability to unload tax burdens on Ghanaians.
At the 2024 Domelevo Accountability Lecture held in the capital of Ghana on Thursday 18th July, 2024, Mr Daniel Domelevo voiced out government’s act of disguising thievery for taxation.
“Ghana is a country which in my considered opinion, has moved beyond taxation to robbery of the people; instead of taxing the people, we are now robbing the people,” he said at the lecture.
Mr Domelevo further quizzed the public with respect to government’s capability to utilize the tax revenues appropriately which in the long-run benefits the entire citizenry.
“Whatever money the government will squeeze out of you, they will squeeze out of you and see the use to which they put this money. And I ask, why are my people not angry enough when you see these types of things happening? He stated.
According to Mr Domelevo, African leaders should take lessons from the recent civil protests happening African countries such as Kenya and desist from perpetrating such leadership style which would cause the citizens to go on deadly protests.
