Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has officially announced the guidelines for its 2024/2025 undergraduate admissions. The admissions portal is now open, allowing prospective students to log in, verify their application details, and make necessary updates.

Applicants are advised to check the following details:

  • Names
  • Dates of birth
  • Examination records, including index numbers, exam type, and year

Additionally, applicants are encouraged to review their selected programmes while referencing the 2023/2024 cut-off points to make informed decisions.

General Admission Requirements

  1. WASSCE/SSSCE Applicants:
    • Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science are mandatory.
    • Three elective subjects relevant to the chosen programme must also be passed.
  2. Alternative Qualifications:
    • Applicants with GCE ‘A’ Levels, International Baccalaureate (IB), and other recognized certificates must meet equivalent entry standards.
  3. Programme-Specific Requirements:
    • For example, the College of Engineering requires credit passes in Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry for WASSCE/SSSCE applicants. Similar requirements apply to other colleges, such as Health Sciences, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
    • Mature and diploma applicants are urged to review specific programme requirements to confirm their eligibility.

E-Voucher Purchases and Deadline

E-vouchers are available at Ghana Post Offices nationwide. Applicants must complete their submissions before the portal closes at midnight on Friday, January 3, 2025.

2.1GUIDELINES FOR SELECTING AN UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME

2.1.1Undergraduate Programmes duration

Most first-degree programmes of study are of Four (4) Years duration.

2.1.2Minimum/General Entry Requirements.

WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS

An applicant for admission to a degree programme in the University must have CREDIT passes(A1-C6 in WASSCE and A–D in SSSCE) in the THREE WASSCE/SSSCE Core

Subjects(English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science), and CREDIT passes in THREEWASSCE/SSSCE ElectiveSubjects or its equivalent relevant to the chosen programme with aggregate 24 or better.

**It is worth noting that the THREECore Subjects are prerequisite for all Programmes of study at our University.

B.GCE/IGCSE (CAMBRIDGE) ‘A’ & ‘O’LEVELS/MATURE APPLICANTSHolders of GCE/IGCSE must have FIVE credits at the ‘O’ Level including English Language

and Mathematics(or its approved equivalent), plus passes in at least THREE (3) subjects at the Advanced Level/Three Credits in the case of mature applicants.  In addition, the applicant must fulfil the appropriate Faculty or Departmental requirements.

GENERAL BUSINESS CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (GBCE)/ ADVANCED BUSINESS CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (ABCE)

ABCE and GBCE are both needed to qualify an applicant for a programme.

Holders of GBCE must have passes in THREE Compulsory Subjects including English Language and passes inTHREEElective Subjects including Business Mathematics.

Holders ABCE must have passes in THREE Compulsory Subjects plus THREE (3)Optional Subjects relevant to the Programme of study.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB)

Holders of International Baccalaureate (IB)should have a minimum of grade 4 at the Higher Level (HL) in Three (3) Subjects relevant to the Programme of choice and minimum

of grade 5 in Chemistry for Health and Allied Sciences. For Engineering, at least grade 5 at the Higher level(HL) inMathematics. In addition, one must have a minimum of grade 4 in English Language and Mathematics at the Standard Level (SL) and at least grade C in a Science subject at the IGCSE.

AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL GRADE 12

An applicant for admission to a degree programme in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi must have a Final Grade Point of at least 3.0. For admission to the University School of Medicine and Dentistry, an applicant must have a Final Grade Point of at least 3.25. Admissions will be to the Year 1.

2.1.3OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION

(a)Ghanaian/Other Applicants with Foreign Results/Certificate

The University shall request an evaluation of results/ Certificate other than those mentioned above, (a) to (f), from the Ghana Tertiary Commission (GTEC) and/or other International Credential Evaluation Agency to facilitate the determination of the suitability of the applicant for admission.

(b)Applicants from French Speaking Countries must provide a minimum of one-year English Proficiency Certificate.

(c)Documents not in English should be accompanied by accredited translations in English.(d)Transfer of Applicants

Applicants from other universities (local and international) who are seeking admission to continue their programme are required to submit official transcript, high school results and a cover letter through the Deputy Registrar, AcademicAffairs([email protected]), or the International Programmes Office ([email protected]) to the Head of Department. Proof of English proficiency and English translation of the transcript must be added where necessary.

•It must be noted, however, that experience at an Architect’s Office or familiarity with computer drafting techniques alone is not a special advantage. The Department shall not regard these as substitutes for the minimum entry requirements to pursue a degree Programme. Applicants may be required to pass a written and an oral examination after pre-qualification exercise.

BSC.CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT (BUILDING TECHNOLOGY)
