Ghana’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Kofi Adams, has declared his full support for the possible inclusion of top players like Eddie Nketiah and Callum Hudson-Odoi in the Black Stars squad as preparations begin for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In an interview with Asempa FM, the minister revealed his willingness to assist in securing dual-national players who could strengthen the national team. However, he stressed that the final decision rests with coach Otto Addo and his technical team.
“Every Ghanaian who knows how to play football has the opportunity to go to the World Cup if the coach decides. It doesn’t matter whether the player was part of the qualifiers or not,” Adams said.
He also noted that discussions were ongoing regarding the possible return of Baba Rahman to the national team, adding that selection will be based solely on merit and technical assessment.
“I’ve heard talks about Baba Rahman’s return, but ultimately, the coach and his team will decide. We will not discriminate based on who played during the qualifiers or not,” he added.
The Sports Minister further disclosed that he had previously played a behind-the-scenes role in recruiting some current national team players, emphasizing his continued commitment to supporting the Black Stars’ success.
“That’s part of my responsibility. If I’m contacted to help, I will. Even some players in the current team were brought in through my background efforts,” he explained.
Adams’ remarks came after Ghana’s 1–0 victory over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, which sealed the country’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup in USA, Mexico, and Canada. The lone goal came from Mohammed Kudus, ensuring the Black Stars’ fifth World Cup appearance since 2006.
As Ghana gears up for the tournament, all attention now turns to the official World Cup draw, scheduled for December 5, 2025, at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Following a group-stage exit in Qatar 2022, the Black Stars are determined to make a stronger statement on the global stage.
