Lamar is an American Basketball Player who was born on Novmber 8, 1979 in South Jamaica, Queens, New York City. He was born to Joe Odom and Cathy Mercer. However, Lamar was raised by his maternal grandmother Mildred Mercer as his mother passed away when he was 12 years due to colon cancer.
He attended ‘Christ The King Regional High School’ in Middle Village, Queens, and ‘Redemption Christian Academy’ in Troy. He later went to ‘St. Thomas Aquinas High School’ in New Britain, Connecticut. He was initially trained in basketball by Jerry DeGregorio, and he played alongside his future teammates Elton Brand, Ron Artest, and Kobe Bryant as a teenager.
He enrolled at the ‘University of Nevada’ in Las Vegas after discovering he wasn’t ready to declare himself for the NBA draft. However, he was released from the school because of several controversies. He later went to University of Rhode Island.
Lamar Odom Career
The ‘Los Angeles Clippers’ selected Lamar with the fourth overall choice in the 1999 NBA Draft. However, he was suspended two times for violating NBA’s drug policy. In 2003, he was a restricted free agent until the ‘Miami Heat’ offered him a contract.
Lamar played the 2003-04 season for the ‘Miami Heat’ as a starting forward. At the end of the season, Odom, Caron Butler, and Brian Grant were moved to the ‘Los Angeles Lakers’ for Shaquille O’Neal.
For the 2012-13 season, he returned to the Clippers but only averaged 4.0 points per game. He later signed with the ‘New York Knicks’. In December 2018, he joined the Philippine club ‘Mighty Sports.’
