In the world of beauty and pageantry, Ghana has managed to carve a name for itself since the first National pageant was held in 1957. Beautiful and intelligent women have represented the nation on the world stage and gone on to win amazing crowns and titles, making the country proud. This year, Silvia Naa Morkor Commodore, a young Ghanaian woman born and bred in the country is lifting the flag high at the ongoing Miss Universe pageant.

Naa Morkor is a model and Business Administration undergraduate who hails from Prampram in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. 2nd Runner-Up of Miss Universe Ghana 2018, she was selected to represent Ghana at this year’s Miss Universe international pageant in Israel. She was unveiled earlier in the year at a ceremony to officially carry the Miss Universe Ghana 2021 title.

Due to the ongoing pandemic and time constraints, organizers of the pageant in Ghana were unable to put together this year’s pageant in time for the world championships, necessitating the appointment of a past queen to represent the country. The next in line in the hierarchy was Tekor Akueteh, who was the 1st Runner-Up in the Miss Universe Ghana 2018 pageant. However, she was not available to participate, passing the mantle to Naa Morkor.

Naa was raised in Accra where her passion for trading, learning about, and engaging in new businesses grew. At a point, she had to support her family when their breadwinner was severely incapacitated by a motor accident. This led her to Radford University College to pursue a degree in Business Administration. She is a gifted dancer, a talent she discovered in her quest to escape hardship in her childhood.

The 26-year-old is not new to pageantry and has competed in and won quite a few beauty competitions. She was the second runner-up at Miss Universe Ghana 2018, and also holds the Miss Intercontinental Africa title. She also competed in Miss Intercontinental 2016 in Sri Lanka.

Although Andrea Meza of Mexico, winner of last year’s pageant crowned Harnaaz Sandhu of India as her successor at the end of the event this year, Naa did her best and made Ghana proud.
