President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially announced the government side of the Presidential Transition Team, in accordance with Section 1 (1) of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845).
The transition team, tasked with ensuring a smooth and seamless transfer of executive power, includes key government officials and leaders. The appointed members are:
Head of the Presidential Staff: Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare
Attorney-General: Godfred Yeboah Dame
Minister for Presidential Affairs: Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu
Minister for Finance: Hon. Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam
Minister for the Interior: Hon. Henry Quartey
Minister for Defence: Hon. Dominic Nitiwul
Minister for Foreign Affairs: Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey
Minister for Local Government: Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah
Minister for National Security: Hon. Albert Kan Dapaah
In addition to these members, the team will also include:
Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh (Head of Civil Service)
Dr. Nana Ato Arthur (Head of Local Government Service)
Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari (Secretary to the Cabinet)
Mr. Edward Asomani (National Security Coordinator)
The transition team will officially commence work on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, during an inaugural meeting. Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare will co-chair the team alongside the President in his absence.
Furthermore, as mandated by Section 5 (1) of the Act, the President has appointed former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, as Chairperson of the Advisory Council, with Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin serving as a key advisory figure.
Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the Office of the President, stated that the team is committed to ensuring a stable, efficient, and peaceful transfer of power to uphold Ghana’s strong democratic credentials.
The Presidential Transition Team will collaborate to maintain governance continuity as the new administration takes office.
