Nana Kwame Bediako Beats Alan Kyerematen in Shocking Election Outcome By 53,276 Votes

In a dramatic turn of events, Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, has made a remarkable entry into Ghana’s political landscape. Representing the New Force Movement, Cheddar placed third in the fiercely contested 2024 presidential election, securing 84,478 votes. He edged out veteran politician Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, who garnered 31,202 votes to place fourth.

Cheddar’s performance signifies a significant shift in Ghana’s political terrain, as he gained momentum against more established political figures, proving his influence as a rising force.

John Mahama Declared President-Elect

The Electoral Commission officially declared John Dramani Mahama the winner of the 2024 presidential election. According to results from 267 constituencies—excluding nine yet-to-be-declared—Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of valid votes cast.

His closest rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), obtained 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%. The election featured 12 candidates in total, with voter turnout recorded at 60.9% based on the 267 constituencies.

Outstanding Constituencies

The results from nine constituencies—Awutu Senya East, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Akwatia, Suhum, Techiman South, Dome Kwabenya, Ablekuma North, Ahafo Ano North, and Damango—are still pending. These constituencies account for a combined total of 947,116 registered voters.

Even in the hypothetical scenario where all remaining voters supported Dr. Bawumia, John Mahama would still emerge victorious with a majority of 52.13%, surpassing the 50% threshold required for a win.

A New Chapter for Ghana

Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensa, officially declared Mahama as the President-elect, stating: “Congratulations, sir, it is finished.”

This marks a decisive mandate for Mahama and his vision for Ghana’s future. The election results underscore both his popularity and the emergence of new political players like Nana Kwame Bediako, signaling a dynamic shift in Ghana’s political landscape.
