A National Service Personnel serving in the Offinso-North District, Miss Elizabeth Dapaah Senior, has initiated an anti-skin bleaching sensitization campaign aimed at educating schoolchildren on the dangers associated with the practice.
Miss Dapaah, who also serves as the founder of the Elizabeth Dapaah Foundation, launched the initiative in collaboration with EduSpots under the theme “Choose Health Over Harm: Say No to Skin Bleaching.”

Speaking during the first engagement at Saviour International School, she revealed that her motivation stems from her personal experience as a former victim of skin bleaching. She said the campaign seeks to prevent young learners from adopting bleaching habits influenced by peers and social pressures.
A team of health and media professionals supporting the exercise briefed students on the harmful effects of bleaching agents such as mercury and hydroquinone, highlighting risks including severe skin damage, increased chances of skin cancer, organ damage, and extreme skin dryness.

Students were encouraged to appreciate their natural skin tones and advised to avoid cosmetic products that may harm their skin. They were also urged to educate their peers and parents on the importance of using safe and approved skincare products.
Miss Dapaah appealed for support and sponsorship to extend the sensitization campaign to other districts and regions, noting that widespread education is necessary to curb the growing trend of skin bleaching among young people.
