Nickecoy Bramwell: Meet  Jamaica’s New Sprint Sensation Breaking Usain Bolt’s Record

By | August 3, 2024

Jamaica continues its tradition of producing world-class sprinters with the emergence of Nickecoy Bramwell, a young talent who has already shattered Usain Bolt’s record.

Renowned for its sprinting prowess, Jamaica has consistently dominated Olympic events despite its small population of under three million. The island nation has produced some of the fastest athletes in history, with Usain Bolt as the greatest sprinter of all time. Bolt’s illustrious career includes eight Olympic gold medals and the world record for the 100m sprint, set at 9.58 seconds in 2009.

However, Jamaica’s sprinting legacy is poised to continue with 16-year-old Nickecoy Bramwell, who is emerging as a new star seven years after Bolt’s retirement. Bramwell has already made headlines by breaking records and showing remarkable potential.

Bramwell’s support system, particularly his family, plays a crucial role in his success. “My family is always there. They’re always at my track meets since the season has started,” Bramwell shared.

His performance this season has been impressive, to say the least. Bramwell set a personal best of 46.75 in the 400m earlier this year, showcasing his incredible speed and determination. On January 20, he clocked a personal best of 10.94 in the 100m and later reset his 200m record to 21.45 at the National Stadium in Kingston.

As Jamaica prepares to cheer on Kishane Thompson in the 100m final at the Paris 2024 Games, Bramwell envisions his future success, eyeing the LA 2028 Olympics. But for now, his focus remains on the 2024 World Junior Championships in Lima, Peru, scheduled for August 27-31. Despite facing injuries early in his career, Bramwell is determined to continue his upward trajectory.

With his talent, determination, and support system, Nickecoy Bramwell is set to carry Jamaica’s sprinting legacy forward, potentially surpassing even the legendary Usain Bolt.
