Tottenham Hotspur have officially parted ways with manager Ange Postecoglou, just weeks after he led the North London club to a historic Europa League title – their first trophy in 17 years.

In a statement released on Friday, June 6, 2025, the club cited domestic league struggles as the main reason for the unexpected dismissal. While Postecoglou delivered European glory with a stunning victory over Manchester United in Bilbao, Tottenham’s dismal performance in the Premier League could not be overlooked.

“We are extremely grateful to Ange for his commitment and contribution during his two years at the Club,” Tottenham wrote on social media. “Ange will always be remembered as only the third manager in our history to deliver a European trophy, alongside legendary figures Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw.”

Despite his success in Europe, Spurs finished a disappointing 17th in the Premier League last season with a record of 11 wins, 5 draws, and 22 losses — narrowly escaping relegation. It marked the club’s worst-ever finish in the Premier League era and their lowest since 2008.

Tottenham Board Releases Statement

The club’s board explained the decision, saying:

“Following a positive start in the 2023/24 Premier League season, we recorded 78 points from the last 66 PL games. This culminated in our worst-ever PL finish last season. At times there were extenuating circumstances – injuries and the decision to prioritise our European campaign. Whilst winning the Europa League ranks as one of the Club’s greatest moments, we cannot base our decision on emotions aligned to this triumph.”

A Bitter End to a Promising Era

Ange Postecoglou, 59, departs halfway through his four-year contract, having overseen 47 wins, 15 draws, and 39 losses during his two-season tenure. He becomes the fourth manager to exit the club since Mauricio Pochettino’s departure in 2019, with Spurs now on the hunt for their fifth manager in six years.

Tottenham had finished 5th in the 2023/24 season, sparking hope among fans. However, a mix of poor form, injuries, and managerial decisions led to a dramatic collapse in 2024/25.

What’s Next for Tottenham?

As fans reel from the shock of Postecoglou’s departure, attention now turns to who will lead Tottenham forward. With pre-season preparations around the corner, the Spurs board faces mounting pressure to find a capable replacement who can restore stability and domestic competitiveness.
