Arsenal vs Man City: Guardiola Reveals Why Arteta’s Men Are Europe’s Toughest Team

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has hailed Arsenal as “the most solid team in Europe” ahead of their much-anticipated Premier League clash at the Emirates this Sunday.

Both teams are heading into the fixture full of confidence after securing victories in the UEFA Champions League midweek. Arsenal defeated Athletic Club 2-0 away in Spain, while Manchester City recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over Napoli at the Etihad.

However, recent meetings between the two sides have favored Mikel Arteta’s men. Arsenal are unbeaten in their last four matches against City and famously thrashed them 5-1 in February 2025, marking one of Guardiola’s heaviest defeats in charge of the Manchester club.

Speaking to the press, Guardiola could not hide his admiration for his former assistant Arteta and the progress Arsenal have made:

“Mikel [Arteta] is an extraordinary manager, and what they’ve done in increasing the squad in these four, five transfer windows is incredible. It’s an unbelievable squad, and an unbelievable team – it’s one of the toughest opponents you can find right now in Europe.”

The clash at the Emirates is expected to be one of the defining games in the Premier League title race, with both sides battling for dominance at the top of the table.
