Prof. Kwesi Botchway Cause of Death

Prof. Kwesi Botchway, Ghana’s former Finance Minister, has died. He served as Finance Minister during the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) military era (1982–1991) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) constitutional era (1992 to 1995).

Kwesi Botchway attended Presbyterian Boys Senior Secondary School. Dr. Botchwey graduated with honors from the University of Ghana, Yale Law School, and the University of Michigan Law School. Prof. Kwesi Botchway taught at the Universities of Zambia, Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), and Ghana. Dr. Botchwey also served as a World Bank advisor on the 1997 World Development Report.

He was also a member and Chairman of the IMF’s Group of Independent Experts, which conducted the first-ever external evaluation of the Enhanced Structural Adjustment Facility. He also served as an advisor to the UNDP’s UN Special Initiative on Africa and the European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM).
