Born on November 22, 1951, in Cape Coast, Ghana, she is celebrated as the first female Vice Presidential candidate of a major political party in Ghana. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English and French from the University of Cape Coast (UCC), a Master’s degree from York University in Canada, and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas, Austin. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang served as the first female Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, leaving an indelible mark on Ghana’s educational landscape.
In 2013, she was appointed Ghana’s Minister for Education, a position where she implemented key reforms to improve the country’s education system. In 2020, she made history by becoming the first woman chosen as a running mate in Ghanaian politics under the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
