Her appointment came after her former boss, Githii Mburu, resigned. Mburu resigned to pursue other personal interests, according to Board Chairperson Anthony Mwaura.
Simiyu has been described by the Authority as a seasoned and grounded tax professional with over 19 years of experience.

Prior to joining KRA in April 2018, she was the Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Limited Regional Tax Manager East Africa, with responsibilities for assignments throughout Africa and the Middle East.
She also served on the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) Finance and Audit Committee, specifically as Chairperson of the Tax Sub-Committee, whose responsibilities included training management and staff of the bank.
Rispah Simiyu is a Chartered Accountant, a Fellow Chartered and Certified Accountant (FCCA), a High Court of Kenya Advocate, a member of the Law Society of Kenya, and a Certified Public Secretary.
She holds a Master of Laws degree with a focus on International Trade and Investment from the University of Nairobi, a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Dar es Salaam, and a post-graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
Mrs. Simiyu brings 19 years of tax experience to the table. She joined PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in 2001 and rose to the position of Tax Manager.
She began working for KRA in April of 2018. Some of her accomplishments in the government agency include increasing the number of disputes settled from 90 to 284 by 2020.
KRA Chairman Ambassador Francis Muthaura said in a statement that Simiyu’s appointment came after a rigorous recruitment process. This year’s process began on August 8th and drew 32 applicants.
The Kenya Revenue Authority appointed Rispah Simiyu as acting Commissioner General in February 2023. Her appointment came after her former boss, Githii Mburu, resigned.
