Serena Williams Continues Dream U.S. Open Run With Win, Tiger Woods Cheers On

The tennis icon Serena Williams advanced in the U.S. Open on Wednesday night with a sizable victory, and Tiger Woods was there to support her throughout it all! Williams defeated No. 2 seed Anett Kontaveit in New York by scores of 7-6 (4), 2-6, and 6-2 while completely controlling the contest.

Despite only having played a few times before the major competition this year, the 40-year-old appeared to be in vintage condition. Celebrities flocked to the event, which many thought would be Serena’s final match of her career. Tiger Woods, Bella Hadid, Gigi Hadid, Spike Lee, Zendaya, Jared Leto, and others went wild whenever Serena won a point.

“It’s no rush here,” she said in a post-match interview. “I’m loving this crowd. Oh my goodness. It’s really fantastic. So there’s a little left in me.”

Even LeBron James supported her from his sofa and referred to her as the “G.O.A.T.” once she had won. Serena lingered on the court for some time after winning, taking it all in.

Williams announced in early August that she would retire after the U.S. Open, which has led to a large demand from celebrities and everyday people to see her final moments on the court. Williams defeated Danka Kovinic earlier this week to progress to Wednesday’s match.

Bill Clinton, Hugh Jackman, and Mike Tyson all showed up to watch tennis’ best player on Monday.
