A fire outbreak has engulfed the Techiman Central Market in the Bono East Region, causing significant damage to goods and property.
Eyewitnesses report that the blaze has consumed numerous shops, resulting in extensive losses. Emergency services are currently on-site, working tirelessly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby areas. This was confirmed by Divisional Officer I (DOI) Alex King Nartey from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Public Relations Department.
This incident is the latest in a series of market fires plaguing Ghana in recent weeks. On January 2, 2025, the Kantamanto Market in Accra, one of the world’s largest secondhand clothing hubs, was devastated by a massive fire. The blaze destroyed hundreds of stalls, affecting thousands of traders and causing severe economic losses.
The increasing frequency of market fires has sparked concerns among traders, citizens, and authorities about the safety and infrastructure of these critical commercial hubs. Investigations are ongoing to identify the causes and develop preventive measures to avert future disasters.
