Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has acknowledged that his team is at serious risk of missing out on the UEFA Champions League knock-out stage this season.
Despite their dominance in recent years, the Cityzens are struggling in the current campaign, sitting in a disappointing 22nd position on the Champions League table. Guardiola’s side has managed to win just two of their six matches in the competition so far.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Everton, Guardiola issued a stern warning about their precarious position.
“Right now, we are at the risk of not qualifying for the Champions League… of course we are! Definitely, we are,” Guardiola stated. “We have to get points and win games; otherwise, we will not qualify for the Champions League!”
Manchester City’s next Champions League fixture is a high-stakes clash against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in January. A win will be critical to keeping their hopes of progressing alive.
With the pressure mounting, Guardiola and his squad will need to find solutions quickly if they are to avoid an early exit from Europe’s premier competition. Fans will be watching closely to see how the reigning Premier League champions respond to this challenge.
