The University of Ghana has launched a self-placement system to help qualified applicants who are not initially admitted select suitable programs through the admissions portal. This initiative, announced by Lydia Anowa Nyako-Danquah, Director of the Academic Affairs Directorate, was revealed during an interview on Campus Exclusive on Radio Univers on January 9, 2024.

How the Self-Placement System Works

According to Mrs. Nyako-Danquah, the system targets applicants who may have applied for programs they do not meet the requirements for. It allows them to revisit the admissions portal and choose from a list of programs they qualify for.

“We have implemented a system to assist students who may not be admitted to self-place in suitable programs. If you do not receive any notification from us, revisit the portal where you will find options for programs you qualify for and self-place in it,” she explained.

She emphasized the importance of selecting programs that align with one’s qualifications and the need for mental preparedness to handle the rigors of university education.

Steps for Self-Placement

1. Log in to the University of Ghana admissions portal.

2. Check for available programs you qualify for.

3. Select and confirm your preferred program.

Applicants are advised to ensure they meet the specific requirements for their chosen programs to enhance their academic journey.

Admission Helpdesk for Assistance

To support students during the admissions process, the University of Ghana has set up an admissions helpdesk at the UG Information Center near the main entrance. This facility will provide guidance to applicants with questions or challenges.

To gain admission to the University of Ghana, applicants must meet the following criteria:

At least credit passes (A1-C6) in six WASSCE subjects, including:

Three core subjects: English, Mathematics, and Integrated Science or Social Studies.

Three elective subjects relevant to the chosen program.

An aggregate score of 24 or better is required, with stricter requirements for competitive programs.
