Traders at Accra’s bustling Kantamanto Market are grappling with the aftermath of a catastrophic fire that destroyed over 100 shops, leaving many without their primary source of livelihood.

The blaze, which broke out at dawn on Thursday, January 2, swept through large sections of the market, forcing traders to desperately salvage whatever goods they could from the ruins.

Images from the scene depict the extent of the destruction, with traders combing through debris and lamenting their losses.

Despite the swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service, efforts to contain the inferno were hampered by the unavailability of functional fire hydrants and a shortage of water, allowing the flames to spread unchecked.
