American actor Geoffrey Louis Owens is best known for playing Elvin Tibideaux on The Cosby Show (1985–1992).

He is the representative Major Owens’ son in the US Congress. One of Owens’ earliest performances was in a production of Peter Pan at Arcata High School, where he portrayed the main part.

His inspiration to pursue acting later in life came from this first performance. As Elvin Tibideaux, the lover of Sondra Huxtable, Owens made his television debut in 1985’s second season of the NBC sitcom The Cosby Show.

Ezekiel and Edna Owens welcomed Major Owens into the world on June 28, 1936 in Collierville, Tennessee. His father was a laborer who worked at a furniture industry where he was raised in Memphis, Tennessee.

Ethel Werfel Owens was the mother of Geoffrey Owens. On October 27, 2020, Ethel Werfel Owens passed away in Montclair. She was a teacher and an advocate for critical thinking and artistic sensibility. She was 97.

She was the daughter of Isadore and Lena Werfel and was born on May 14, 1923.

She attended Juilliard to study conducting before receiving a scholarship to the University of Chicago’s MFA program, where she became a student of the ground-breaking humanities program run by Robert Maynard Hutchins. She graduated from Brooklyn College and Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn.
