David Warburton has been the Conservative Party’s MP for Somerton and Frome in Somerset since the 2015 general election.
He was born in Burnham, Lincolnshire, on October 28, 1965. Warburton attended Reading School, a selective boys’ grammar school, before going on to the Royal College of Music to study music.
He worked as a freelance composer, a music instructor, and the founder of The Music Solution LTD before entering politics. In 2009, he became the Wells Conservative association treasure, and from there he served as its political chairman and spokesman until 2012.
When David Heath, a Liberal Democrat who had held the Somerset seat since 1997, stepped down, Warburton was elected.
He was first elected in the general election of 2015, and then again in 2017.
Warburton has battled to prevent the EU from placing excise duties on small-scale cider producers’ sales throughout his time in parliament.
Warburton serves on a number of committees and groups as a backbencher, including all-party groupings and European oversight groups.
