Regina King is an American actress and director. She is best known for her roles as Teri Joseph in the Spike Lee film School Daze, Brenda Jenkins in the TV series Southland, and as Detective Lydia Adams on the TV show Seven Seconds.
King was born on October 18, 1970, in Los Angeles to his father Reverend Dr. William King, and mother Barbara King (née Tate). Her father was a Baptist minister who played professional football in the National Football League for three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He died of cancer when Regina was six years old. Her mother worked as a nurse at UCLA Medical Center and died of breast cancer when Regina was 13 years old.
King graduated from John Muir High School in Pasadena, California before attending Stanford University where she studied sociology and African-American.
