The official GWR publication stated, “The longest time to hug a tree is 24 hr 21 min 4 sec, achieved by Abdul Hakim Awal (Ghana) in Kumasi, Ghana, from 22 to 23 May 2025. Abdul attempted this record to highlight the importance of nature conservation.”

Abdul’s journey to this remarkable achievement began with a deep commitment to environmental awareness. On May 22, 2024, he embarked on his quest to set the record for the longest tree hug. After successfully hugging the tree for over 24 hours, he submitted the evidence to the GWR team, who meticulously reviewed and validated his accomplishment.

But Abdul isn’t the only Ghanaian making headlines for tree-hugging records. Earlier, in April 2024, 29-year-old Abubakar Tahiru also earned a spot in the Guinness World Records for hugging the most trees. Tahiru hugged an astonishing 1,123 trees, averaging nearly 19 trees per minute, and was recognized as the record holder for the “Most Trees Hugged” category.
