Ghana has lost one of its most influential women. Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has passed away at the age of 76. According to sources close to the family, she died in the early hours of Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra. Nana Konadu was born on November 17, 1948, in Cape Coast in the Central Region.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was a towering figure in Ghana’s political and social space. She will be remembered for her strong voice in championing women’s empowerment and her lifelong commitment to social development.
Over the years, she played a key role in shaping Ghana’s political history. After leaving the National Democratic Congress (NDC), she went on to found the National Democratic Party (NDP), continuing her political journey with the same determination and conviction that defined her public life.
Recently, Nana Konadu was seen at the Jubilee House with her children, where she joined other dignitaries in laying wreaths for the eight public servants who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash.
She was also in Kumasi earlier this year to pay her respects during the Dote Yie funeral rites for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III. Accompanied by two of her children, Amina and Kimathi Agyeman-Rawlings, she was seen consoling Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Asante royal family.
Her passing comes nearly five years after the death of her husband, former President Jerry John Rawlings, who died on November 12, 2020, at the age of 73.
As of now, the Rawlings family and government officials have not yet released an official statement regarding her death.
