1. Wli Waterfalls (Agumatsa Falls)
Wli Waterfalls, also known as Agumatsa Falls, is the tallest waterfall in West Africa, standing at an impressive 80 meters. Located in the Volta Region, about four hours from Accra, this waterfall offers two distinct experiences: the upper falls and the lower falls.
To visit the upper falls, be prepared for a 40-minute walk followed by a challenging hour-and-a-half hike. The entire journey takes about 4 hours and 20 minutes. If you prefer a less strenuous experience, the lower falls are accessible via a 40-minute walk on flat terrain, crossing nine bridges along the way. The view is absolutely breathtaking, and the powerful waters create a mesmerizing atmosphere.
For those visiting the lower falls, plan to spend about 1.5 to 2 hours to fully enjoy the scenery and relax.
2. Oté Falls
Located in the Volta Region, Oté Falls offers a unique experience combining two exciting activities: a canopy walkway and a waterfall. After descending 259 steps, visitors can cross the canopy walkway, which provides stunning views of the surrounding forest. From there, a short but challenging path leads to the waterfall. The adventure begins with a 5-minute motorcycle ride from the car park to the entrance, where non-Ghanaians pay an entry fee of 40 cedis. While the journey is adventurous, the views make it worthwhile.
3. Tagbo Falls
Tagbo Falls, situated in Liati Wote near Mt. Afadjato, is another gem in the Volta Region. Standing at 60 meters high, this waterfall is accessible via a 40-minute hike through a cocoa forest, crossing several bridges along the way. The path is hilly, making it more of a hike than a walk, but the effort is rewarded with a peaceful and picturesque view of the falls.
Visitors are encouraged to spend at least an hour at Tagbo Falls to soak in the scenery and rest before hiking back. Entry fees are 40 cedis for non-Ghanaians and 10 cedis for Ghanaians.
4. Asenema Falls
Asenema Falls is one of the most accessible waterfalls in Ghana and a personal favorite. Located just two hours from Accra in the Akuapem Hills, this stunning waterfall is easily reachable with a short 5-10 minute walk from the entrance. With a flat entry fee of 20 GHC, Asenema Falls is an unmissable stop on any trip to Ghana.
5. Boti Falls
Boti Falls is a seasonal twin waterfall, where two rivers converge to create a spectacular sight. Locals refer to the falls as male and female, and according to legend, a rainbow forms when they merge. To visit Boti Falls, you’ll need to walk down 250 steps. Canoe rides are available for those who want to get as close as possible to the water.
Entry fees range from 50 to 100 GHC, which includes guide fees. For the best experience, visit during the rainy season when the falls are at their fullest.
6. Chenku Waterfalls
Chenku Waterfalls, also known as Wuruduwurudu Falls, is located in the Dodowa Forest within the Shai Osu-Doku District of the Greater Accra Region. It is the only waterfall in the region, situated 39km from Accra. The waterfall, which drops from a height of 250 feet, flows into a clear pool populated by tilapia. The Chenku stream merges with two others, Sanyade and Popotsi, before reaching the sea. Notable features include impressive exposed rocks in the valley and a rock wall with a small cave, showcasing significant geological formations. The surrounding forest, once sacred, is named after the Chenku god.
