ECG boss Samuel Dubik Mahama resigns

Samuel Dubik Mahama, the Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has resigned, ending his two-year tenure.

Mr. Mahama officially submitted his resignation letter to the ECG Board and provided a two-week notice. According to sources, he cited personal reasons for his decision and expressed gratitude for the working relationship and opportunities he had at the company.

“I am writing to formally resign from my position as Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana, effective two weeks from the above date. The decision has not come easily, but after much reflection, I have concluded that it is in my best interest to step away for personal reasons.

“Over the past two years and four months. I have had the profound honour of serving this esteemed organisation, and I am truly grateful for the opportunities I have received. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Board for your unwavering support and guidance throughout my tenure. I also wish to express my sincere gratitude to the President for the trust placed in me, which has been a significant aspect of my journey here.”

Samuel Dubik Mahama’s resignation as Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has come as a surprise to many in Ghana’s energy sector, as he had only held the position for two years. Appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Mahama assumed office on May 16, 2022.

Despite the unexpected nature of his departure, neither ECG nor government officials have commented on the reasons behind his resignation. Mahama, prior to his role as Managing Director, served as a non-executive director at ECG and had extensive experience in both the private and public sectors.

His previous roles include non-executive director at GIHOC Distilleries, country representative for Gulfsouth Forest Products, and partner at Dubik & Associates and Wilkins Engineering. Additionally, Mahama is a legal practitioner and a graduate of the University of Ghana.
