The member of Parliament elected for Assin North Constituency in the 2020 elections has been stripped from his position

However, in a ruling by the supreme court of Ghana on April 2022, the court made it clear that Gyakye Quayson is not a valid member of Parliament.

It is enshrined in the 1992 constitution, Article 92, 2a ” A person shall not be qualified to be a member of Parliament if he or she owes allegiance to a country other than Ghana.

This ruling by the supreme court has instructed parliament to expunge the name of James Gyakye Quayson as a member of Parliament meanwhile, This has allowed the Electoral Commission to set a new date for a Bye-Election in the Assin North Constituency and E.C have set a date.

The National Democratic Congress and their candidate James Gyakye in the last few days have intensified their campaign in the Constituency. They believe their candidate is going to win the Bye-Election with an overwhelming and unprecedented large number of votes.

As of today, 9th of June,2023, several reports from Assin North Constituency have shown that the Constituency is experiencing many development projects such as roads and many more. The NDC has also made claims about the candidate the New Patriotic Party is presenting as an unregistered voter in the Constituency and hence, He is not qualified.
